North Carolina State Publications Digital Collection: Develop and implement an outreach and training plan for state agency content providers and users of the North Carolina State Publications Digital Collection to support good digital information management practices, submission of usable digital information, and use of open and accessible file formats.
The North Carolina State Government Web Site Archives:: Maintain the publicly accessible archive/repository of state agency websites using the Internet Archive’s Archive-It service and continue to work with state agencies to assist them in creating preservation-ready web presences. Project staff will work with Internet Archive staff to create a “Best Practices for Designing Preservation-Ready Websites” that will be used to guide state agency staff in creating websites that can be captured and rendered back over time using the Archive-It service.
State Depository Libraries: Convene a 1-day meeting for representatives from all state depository libraries to update them on digital preservation and access at the Library, the digital repository for state publications, and the incorporation of digital publications into the Depository System, and gain input from them on continuing these initiatives.
State Agency CIO Meetings: Attend state CIO meeting(s) to spread word about the Digital Repository and digital preservation efforts at State Library. The State CIOs are significant players in digital preservation as they manage and purchase servers and storage at each of the agencies, and can best deliver the message back to agency publishers and distributors of publications about the services and resources available through the State Library.
Digital Preservation Policy and a Digital Preservation Plan: Build on the existing Digital Preservation Policy Framework document to implement a department-wide Digital Preservation Plan and Digital Preservation Policy for the Department of Cultural Resources (specifically, the State Library and the State Archives) to outline how DCR can build a sustainable preservation program over the next several years.
